Journal Prompt Questions:
How do different spaces influence your personal growth and creativity?
What familiar places evoke nostalgia and why?
How can you balance multiple roles without losing your sense of self?
Found myself in the studio today…👀
Not back to singing (yet) but had some fun recording a voiceover for a commercial at our production studio! It felt nostalgic being back in the booth, an experience that gave me an early start on my August journal prompts on how space can change the way you grow.
Being back in this familiar creative space felt strange. It brought back a wave of emotions—nervousness, excitement, fear, and sadness. Growth in and from this physical recording studio has taken years to come to terms with. Singing was pre-motherhood. It was before some of my most significant life changes when I thought my life was on an entirely different trajectory.
When I became “mommy,” I thought life had to stop. I thought it meant dropping everything—dreams, plans, projects—and becoming solely “mom.”
So, I stopped singing.
I stopped dreaming.
And all of me became “mommy.”
Growing up, I never saw a model of “mom” to emulate. So, when I became pregnant, I didn’t know how to be a mom. I put every ounce of myself into learning and being everything I thought a mom was supposed to be.
In many ways, I lost who I was. Today, standing in this familiar space, a few old questions revisited my mind: If I step back into the creative space, how will I balance time? How would I be a mom and a wife? How would life change again? Would I be ready for the change?
As I grow in different spaces of life, I’m learning that “mom” means I’m human. I’m learning that change isn’t bad. I’m paying attention to spaces that support my growth. I’m forever questioning (and that’s okay). I’m leaning into enjoying the moments and living life fully. And I’m patting myself on the back and celebrating mini milestones in every space.
The Power of Space and Growth
Spaces, both physical and metaphorical, have a profound impact on our growth. Returning to the studio reminded me of a part of myself I had set aside. The studio is more than just a room; it’s a place where my dreams once flourished and where I can still nurture new ones. It’s a space that witnessed my passions and creativity before life’s major shifts.
By stepping back into the studio, I confronted my fears and embraced the possibility of integrating my past passions with my current roles. This experience illuminated a crucial realization: growth isn’t about leaving parts of ourselves behind but integrating them into our evolving identities.
Balancing Multiple Roles
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is balancing my role as a mom with my dreams and aspirations. It’s a delicate dance of time management, self-care, and prioritizing. The fear of not being able to do it all can be paralyzing, but it’s important to remember that balance doesn’t mean perfection. It means finding a rhythm that works for you and your family.
Embracing Change
Change can be daunting, but it’s also a powerful catalyst for growth. Every new space, whether it’s a physical location like the studio or a new chapter in life, offers opportunities to learn and evolve. Embracing change means being open to new experiences and understanding that it’s okay to feel uncertain. It’s about trusting that every step, even the hesitant ones, contributes to your journey.
Celebrating Mini Milestones
In the hustle of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the small victories. But these mini-milestones are essential. They remind us of our progress and encourage us to keep moving forward. Whether it’s spending a few hours in the studio or simply taking time for self-reflection, every small step is worth celebrating.
Here’s to new spaces, mini-milestones, and continued growth…🥂
